Setting Permissions in the Subfolders of a Project
Scenario: You have created a project folder using SMC on Server and have shared it, and set has permissions on it. Next, you must provide appropriate access rights on the individual subfolders of a project folder as follows:
Documents:
Provide read access on all files and subfolders to the web server account and all Windows client accounts.
Devices, Graphics, Libraries and Profiles:
Provide read/write access on all files and subfolders (including the right to delete them, but not the root folder itself) to the web server account and all Windows client accounts.
Graphics:
Access can get restricted to read-only for Windows client accounts that only visualize graphics, but do not engineer them.
Libraries:
Access can get restricted to read-only for Windows client accounts that run Desigo CC in Operation mode only.
Profiles:
Provide read access to all Windows client accounts, read/write access to the web server account.
Shared:
Provide read access to all files and subfolders to the web server account and all Windows client accounts.
All other folders:
Provide read/write access to the system account only ([System Account] gets configured in the SMC).
Do not provide access to these folders to any other account.
Step-by-Step
The project folder is created, shared, and has permissions set on it.
You want to set permissions in the Devices, Graphics, Libraries, Profiles, and Shared subfolders.
1.
Right-click on the Devices folder and in the Properties dialog box, select the Security tab.
2.
Select the group or user name and click Edit to change permissions.
3.
In the Permissions for devices dialog box, select the check boxes to allow permissions to Modify, Read and Execute, List Folder Contents, Read and Write and confirm the changes with OK.
4.
In the Properties dialog box, click OK.
5.
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the other folders — Graphics, Libraries, Profiles and Shared.
The permissions are set in the respective subfolders of the project.
NOTE: On fresh Windows Server computers, to import libraries safely without any error, you must provide Write permissions in the Libraries folder after creating a project using the SMC.
